This was one of only two made by Mercedes from magnesium alloy. We had to make and gas weld in new magnesium sections to restore the body to its former glory.
No other company wanted to become involved because of the danger of creating a very expensive magnesium flare, but having worked on magnesium before we were aware of correct procedure and the job presented no particular problems other than the usual one of having to work the magnesium hot with leather gloves, even the wheels had to be heated!
