We re-bodied two of these for the famous Gosthwaite and Gardiner mechanical restoration company. One 1937 and the other the 1939 German GP winner driven by Nuvolari. The work involved brief access to an original bodied car (about 4 hours) for templating, measuring, photographing and videoing, from then on we worked from period photographs, particularly for the '39 car which was quite different. The fuel and oil tanks were fabricated from sheet tinned steel and polished steel respectively, even the brake fluid reservoir was from polshed steel. All the cast fittings such as the aero screen supports, bonnet clips and seat brackets were cast from wooden patterns made in our workshops. The whole body was painstakingly re-created down to the last rivet. Every louvre has a stiffener rivited behind it and a tiny hole drilled at each end of it to stop it cracking with vibration, just as the original. | ||
